How to post to your WordPress Blog + best practices

This tutorial covers all the steps you need to take in order to post a new blog post to your WordPress website, and my best practices for doing so.

If you are a beginner to WordPress SEO, you need to understand that there are more than one factors that play a role in rankings..

One thing to think about is your on-page SEO. This is the part where you can send many ‘signals’ to search engines about the meaning of your content and purpose of your page.

  1. Write your post
  2. Login to your WordPress website, go to Posts and click Add New
  3. Enter the Title of your post
  4. This is a great article on choosing a great blog title
  5. Paste the text in the Text Editor
  6. Proofread and then make the post scannable. Change one-liners and blurbs to Heading 2 or 3.
  7. Add images to the text body (file sizes for images should be around 500kb).
  8. Set Categories (remember less is more here)
  9. Set Tags (these are more specific than categories)
  10. Set Featured Image (most often your ‘branded’ blog image)
  11. Add any additional images into the text body
  12. Add Alt Text to images
  13. Add external links
  14. Preview post and proof again
  15. Change schedule date to the desired date
  16. Click Schedule
  17. Publish to networks
